One day, priest Rangappa met the President and Shetty Yajaman Muniyappa and discussed with them the manner in which the routine Pujas and rituals were taking place in the temple; he also suggested that if an annual carnival is put into practice, the Samaj will progress at a higher altitude. Kam. Muniyappa then replied to priest Rangappa that the matter will be discussed at a meeting and based on what transpires in the meeting, a decision would be taken. Priest Rangappa went back.

Within two-three days of that, Kam. Muniyappa called for a meeting of the prominent persons of the Samaj and said at the meet: “Consecration of the Goddess has been ceremoniously completed. All the people of the Samaj are leading a calm life. No one is facing any kind of problem. Now, as suggested by priest Rangappa, our Samaj will prosper better if we can organize a carnival (Jatra) every year.” Everyone unitedly accepted the suggestion.

Finally, another session of exchange of thoughts was organized to discuss about the proposal to conduct an annual feast for the Goddess. Pujari Rangappa said:” the Jatra of Sri Doddamma Jaladurgamma should be conducted in the third year of consecration. The Ganga atop Kallattagiri hillock in Kallattipura near Chikkamagalur should be worshipped as detailed in the Holy Texts and that mother should be brought on foot and fill the Temple with that water. Firewood from Seven holy trees should be brought; the place in front of the temple should be purified with cow dung, cow’s urine and milk. The firewood should be arranged in a tower shape; worship should be offered to the mother at the dawn; later, as per the spiritual texts, Ayya, along with Shetty Yajaman in his sane state, should light the tower-shaped firewood. After the firewood gets fully burnt, the burning charcoal should be spread. Members of each family should observe fast, carry water on the head and hold Arati as well, come to the sanctifying abode of the Goddess and remembering the Mother Goddess, they should walk on the burning charcoal and offer Puja to the Goddess. Pleased with this type of worship, the Goddess will pronounce that she will fulfil all the desired goals of the devotees,” Rangappa said in a voice that sounded like a voice from the Invisible Lord (Daivavani).

Some of the participants said that to do all this, the approval by the Goddess was essential and provided she approves it, the said ritual could be performed. All the participants were told to once again assemble at the same venue on Friday. On Friday, people came to the temple with flowers, fruits and coconut. The Goddess was decorated with the flowers that Pujari Rangappa had brought and the Goddess was worshipped gloriously. President Kam. Muniyappa, along with some of the Shetty Yajamans who had assembled there, offered prayers to the Goddess and said: “If you agree with what Pujari Rangappa has suggested to organize annual Jatras every year, then order us by dropping a flower on your right side and if you do not want it that way, say it on your left side.” All the people prostrated in front of the Goddess and sat down. Within a few minutes, the Goddess, without delaying it further, all the flowers adored on the right side of the Goddess dropped like showers. People who had assembled were thrilled, even as a blissful, satisfied, devout smile appeared on their lips. Immediately, they decided to conduct the Jatra of Sri Devi with mirth and glory.
